Carbon impacts → Supply chain
Global supply chain
Since 2019, we have placed significant effort into decarbonising our Scope 1 and 2 emissions, noting the short-term targets we committed too. Having exceeded those targets ahead of schedule, we must maintain that success but must also turn our collective efforts to address our Scope 3 emissions. Notably, this is from our supply chain, which accounts for over 96% of all Turner & Townsend emissions.

Supply chain impacts always accounted for the majority of emissions but driven by the 2025 inclusion of the Principal Contracting practices in the business, this has been exacerbated as our supply chain model and tier-1 supplier spend has considerably altered.

Of overall GHG

We now account for approximately supply chain impacts that are 10-20x greater than our emissions excluding Principal Contracting. Additionally, the business has grown by >10% by headcount, from 2024, further placing demand on onboarding and other relatable purchasing needs.
Typifying that change, 35% of supply chain emissions are attributable to general building services, which is inclusive of categories such as general contractors, engineering services and furniture purchasing and installation, as examples. In a similar vain, another ~17% is attributable to specialist services such as lab fixtures and fittings, HVAC and other electrical systems. The chart displays our 18 most contributing categories to our GHG impact, accounting for over 95% of our spend-based emissions.
A positive transformation in 2025, has been the joint use of a dedicated Carbon Trace programme, with CBRE. This has allowed for a meaningful, yet iterative, transition from benchmarks and industry average data, to supplier-specific, activity data. Deliberate, low-carbon, decision-making when appointing supply chain partners will now result in visible corporate and project-level decarbonisation.
“By driving towards a low carbon future, Turner & Townsend are placing a sustainable supply chain at the heart of our business. We are committed to transforming performance across our operations, and with our delivery partners. The growth of our principal contracting services has allowed us to expand our ambition and set new standards to influence our industries and markets”
